US seeking Pakistan help to resume talks with Afghan Taliban

The U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William J. Burns is in Islamabad. He says the US is seeking Pakistan's help to resume dialogue with Taliban militants in Afghanistan more than a decade after invading the country to allegedly destroy its militancy.However, the immediate concern for the US in the past few days has been how to end prosecution against FBI agent Joel Cox on terrorism charges in Pakistan . Cox was arrested with ammunition in Karachi when he attempted to board a domestic flight last week.

Afghanistan says it would object if the United States decided to hand over surplus armored vehicles and other military equipment to Pakistan.
( NOTE THIS MESSAGE) The Post story says U.S. and Pakistani officials have been discussing the fate of the leftover military hardware that the United States does not want to pay to ship or fly home.
